First Frost on Kappa Bridge as 2025 Season Winds Down

A hearty hello to all of our loyal readers near and far!

It may only be mid-autumn for most people in central Japan, but as the weather grows chillier by the day one thing is clear: winter is coming to Kamikochi.

Just over a week ago, a sudden cold snap saw morning temperatures drop below freezing as a veneer of frost settled on surfaces around central Kamikochi.

Five Sense blogger Fuuta has shared the following images:

Of course, a little frost doesn't mean that the season's over just yet. It's still possible to enjoy the site of colorful larch needles for a few more days.

As for attire, you'll definitely want to have something suitable for cold conditions, such as a down jacket, warm cloves, warm hat, sturdy leggings, and the always indispensable hiking books.

And just as a reminder to anyone who's unsure of exactly when the park closes, the last bus departs Kamikochi for Matsumoto at 17:55 on November 15th. It may still be possible to catch a taxi for about an hour after that, but don't leave it too late! You can find the full bus timetables here.

Thanks to Fuuta and all of the fine folks at Five Sense for posting the material used in our blogs this year. We'll be back with a few more updates in the lead up to closing in just over two weeks.

Till then, we hope you're all keeping warm and getting the most out of this autumn.
