Snowfall on Larches

A hearty hello to all of our loyal readers from near and far!

As you may have guessed from the title of today's blog, we've seen a bit in snowfall in Kamikochi. It all started on Monday, when the skies clouded over and fresh snow gusted in blanketing the ground and crowning the mountains with a lustrous white mantel.

The above photos were shared on the Five Sense blog by Fu-ta, who also provided a first hand account of conditions earlier this week.

Amid all these signs of coming winter, the last vestiges of autumn clung defiantly to their branches as the larch trees around central Kamikochi continued to show peak colors:

The trees are said to be displaying full foliage at the moment, so anyone wishing to see them still has time. Central locations such as the Konashidaira Camping area, the bus terminal, and the paths along the Azusa River are recommended viewing spots. For more detailed info, please revisit this post from last month.

If you're planning to make the journey out before end of season, please be advised that warm attire is now a must. Warm jackets, thermals, hats, and gloves, along with sturdy trousers and boots will help ensure that the early winter chill doesn't cut into your enjoyment of the park.

That's all for this week's update. Thanks as always to Fu-ta and all of the intrepid bloggers at Five Sense, who always bring much needed insight into the current goings on in Kamikochi.

Till next time, be well and stay warm.
