Ever Been to the Visitor Center?

The weather is really strange these days, isn’t it? With the ending of the O-Bon holiday season, the rains have once again come with seemingly no end. Almost every day rain has been pounding down on Kamikōchi as well as most of Japan. I’d have to say this is one of the rainiest years I’ve experienced in Japan. So, what can you do when the weather is really up against you? How about a visit to the Kamikōchi Visitor Center?

The Kamikōchi Visitor Center

Located just a five-minute walk north of Kappa-bashi Bridge on the way to Konashi-daira, the center offers shelter from the elements. Inside, you can find information on various parts of Kamikōchi and learn about the seasons, plantlife, and birdlife of Kamikōchi. You can also find information on the major places of beauty and walking courses.

Inside the Visitor Center

With all kinds of exhibits, pictures, slideshows, videos, and live cameras (even an underwater camera), the center will keep you busy for a while!

So, whether you’re stuck in the rain or not, a visit to the visitor center is worth it. The center is open from 8am to 5pm every day through November 15th this year. And being free of charge, there’s really no reason not to check it out.
